The Department of Training offers the following funding programs;
NWT POST SECONDARY PROGRAM is a post secondary education funding program for NWT students who have become residents of the Yukon for the period of one year. The funding program pays a living allowance, books and tuition for each student. We have a large number of applicants applying for College Prep. It is a prerequisite for most of the post secondary education programs. We have students who take their post secondary education program outside Yukon, as the program is not offered in Yukon, such as Nursing. National Child Benefit (NCB) funding initiative is a funding program co-sponsoring existing programs at the Centre, including Recreation, Pre-Natal, Diversion, UMAYC and TPP. The funds are used for program activities specifically for youth up to the age of 18. The activities include summer harvest camps, drum-making, snowshoe making, recreation and Christmas activities for children and youth. Click here to view the NCB website.
AHRDA (Aboriginal Human Resources Development Agreement) is a funding initiative for urban aboriginal people who are unemployed or underemployed seeking to re-enter the labor force. The funds are used for training programs, courses or job subsidies depending on identified needs of applicants. Applicants enroll in short courses, such as First Aid, WHMYS, Class 1 Driver Training, Class 3 Driving Training, and other short courses which are required by employers for employment.
