Traditional Parenting

Objective

The Traditional Parenting Program works towards improving the health and quality of life of Aboriginal peoples by teaching parenting skills through the traditional knowledge of Elders. The program also provides people with outreach programming in Yukon communities.

Target Group

The main target group is urban Aboriginals, however other ethnic groups are welcome

Goals

To encourage interest in and practice of traditional parenting values
To preserve Aboriginal culture
To promote health values
To prevent the occurrence of FASD in infants

Elders

Elders are an essential component to our programming. As memory keepers of our traditions, stories, songs, dances and ceremonies it is the Elders who provide us with the knowledge to carry on with our traditions of the past. As a result of this way of thinking, each workshop that we run is taught by an Elder from the community.
