NWT Post-Secondary Program
Post secondary education funding is available for NWT students who have become residents of the Yukon for the period of one year. The funding program pays a living allowance, books and tuition for each student. We have a large number of applicants applying for College Prep. It is a prerequisite for most of the post secondary education programs. We have students who take their post secondary education program outside Yukon if the program is not offered in Yukon, such as Nursing. Students applying for the NWT Secondary Education funding must have successfully completed high school and received a high school diploma. A one year certification education program qualifies. Post Secondary Education applicants may receive funding for Diploma and Degree qualifying Programs. It excludes the trades programs.
National Child Benefit (NCB) Funding Initiative
A funding program co-sponsoring existing programs at the Centre, including Recreation, Pre-Natal, Diversion, CCAY and TPP. The funds are used for program activities specifically for youth up to the age of 18. The activities include summer harvest camps, drum-making, snowshoe making, recreation and Christmas activities for children and youth.
Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS)
A funding initiative for urban aboriginal people who are unemployed or underemployed seeking to re-enter the labor force. The funds are used for training programs, courses or job subsidies depending on identified needs of applicants. Applicants enroll in short courses, such as First Aid, WHMYS, Class 1 Driver Training, Class 3 Driving Training, and other short courses which are required by employers for employment. The ASETS Program is available to all persons who self-declare as aboriginal as defined by the Constitution of the Government of Canada. We provide funding to all urban aboriginal persons who are unemployed or underemployed. Our ASETS agreement excludes all Yukon First Nations, as they have their own funding agreements. We provide assistance to all aboriginal applicants to source out funding with other funding agencies.
