Youth Employment Centre

Objective

The objective of the Youth Employment Centre Program is to help youth develop the necessary skills to successfully gain and maintain meaningful employment. We are fully dedicated to assisting youth who struggle with employment through tailored support and training on an individual basis.

Target Group

We provide services to ALL youth, regardless of their ethnic background, who are between the ages of 16-30 and are in transition to work. We offer services to youth throughout Yukon and are committed to visiting Yukon communities three to four times annually.

Services

General services for ALL youth:

  • Job search tools and resources
  • Drop-in Centre with access to computer lab, fax machine, photo copier, phone etc.
  • Career development workshops (resume & cover letter writing, interview prep, job search strategies etc.)

For youth who have not successfully completed high school:

  • Meaningful paid 3 month work placements
  • Life skills training ( First Aid, How To Stretch Your Money, WHIMIS)
  • Case management with onsite youth employment coordinators

For youth who are currently attending high school or post-secondary:

  • Co-op programs and internships for credit towards graduation

Youth Employment Council

We are in the process of developing a Youth Employment Council to provide feedback on programming and services offered through the Youth Employment Centre Program. The Council will consist of at least 2 youth representatives, 1 Skookum Jim Friendship Centre representative, 1 Government representative, and 1 Elder.
